Research Happenings

Inquiring Minds
We all know that NAU produces cutting-edge scientific research. Now everyone in the Northern Arizona region will know it! A new KNAU (91.7 FM) series, Inquiring Minds, goes behind the scenes to reveal and explain the world-class discoveries and explorations taking place right here at NAU.

The two-minute long segments air most Mondays at 6:30am and 8:30am. Audiocasts of Inquiring Minds can also be found at

The 2011 Global Learning Symposium

Material Safety Data Sheets

Material Safety Data Sheets Are Now Online!
In order to make departmental compliance with hazard communication and laboratory safety regulations easier, the Office of Regulatory Compliance has developed an online Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) database. NAU Employees can search and view/print MSDSs from current files, or request that MSDSs for products being used are added to the database. Ideally, MSDSs for hazardous chemicals will still be maintained at work locations. However, this database access will help NAU departments comply with applicable regulations.

Undergraduate Research Gets a Boost with Campus-wide Coordinator
The Office of the Vice President for Research has added an important new member to its team. MaryLynn Quartaroli, previously of the College of Education, has been appointed as NAU's first "campuswide" Undergraduate Research Coordinator. MaryLynn (or "ML" as we call her) has managed the SFAz-funded NEXUS program for the past few years and has scads of experience in teaching, research, program evaluation and project administration. Her experiences as an NAU student (both undergraduate and graduate), faculty member and staff member (both classified and service professional!) have provided her with a broad and deep understanding of the nature of undergraduate learning through research, and we look forward to working with her to provide crucial centralized support and coordination for undergraduate research programs here at NAU. Please join us in welcoming ML to the OVPR!
