- NASA Space Grant Undergraduate Research Internship Program
Undergraduate students in the Department of Physics and Astronomy participate in mentor-guided research internships in leading-edge scientific programs. A great enhancement to classroom education, these internships contribute to the development of technically informed, aware, and sensitive students—essential to the success of U.S. space endeavors as well as to broader national priorities. Students present their findings at an annual symposium. (more info) - Hooper Undergraduate Research Award Program
The Hooper Undergraduate Research Award (HURA) program offers financial awards to full time undergraduate students for research, scholarly or creative projects undertaken in partnership with a faculty mentor. The HURA program encourages students to conduct research and pursue academic interests outside their regular courses by employing them to work on special research projects of their own interest. HURA applications are judged on both the quality of the proposed project and the educational benefit to the student. Awards are not based on financial need. Deadline: 5:00PM Friday, February 27, 2009 for FY09 funding (July 1, 2009 - June 1, 2010)
HURA Program Guidelines and Application Forms for 2009-10 are posted HERE. - Hooper Sustainability Awards.
The Hooper Student Fund Committee announces a Request for Proposals for Environmental Sustainability Projects, honoring Dr. Henry O. Hooper. Undergraduate and graduate students (as individuals or small groups) may apply for awards of up to $2,500. The emphasis of proposed projects should be on actual outcomes--that is, solutions that advance sustainability on campus or in the region. In all projects, a faculty mentor is required.

“The Hooper Undergraduate Research Grant has given me the knowledge of the processes that happen and the experience of steps that are followed in undertaking research grant proposals. I plan on utilizing the grant to pay for satellite imagery and acquire data from research groups such as the U.S. Geological Survey and other universities.”
—Jefferson C. Chang, Geology,
El Paso, TX
“This grant allowed me to attend one of the most important international meetings in volcanology, the IAVCEI General Assembly, held in Chile. I was able to present my research in a poster format and make contacts for future Ph.D. research while attending the meeting!”
—Christina Jan, Geology, Sylvania, OH
“I am honored to be part of the NASA Reduced Gravity Student Flight Opportunities Program. I was deemed uniquely qualified for a position with the first ZERO-G Crew! The ZERO-G Corporation is Earth’s first spaceline and is a huge step towards my dream for public space flight. Thank you for your excellent support during my education at NAU.”
